OSB SIP is a new construction material. Wide application of SIPs allows to build quite complex residential buildings quickly and sparingly. Introduction of the SIP technology in Ukraine is actively underway due to this unique construction material being simple, sustainable, reliable and durable. SIP structures are very similar to wooden structures, but differ due to absence of a number of faults. SIP stands for ‘Structural Insulated Panels’. What does this mean? A SIP is not made from a solid material, but of an entire combination of bonded materials each serving its purpose. This panel structure resembles a layered pie or a sandwich, therefore SIPs are also called sandwich panels. The outer layer of a SIP is made from a moisture-resistant OSB-3. OSB stands for ‘Oriented Strand Board’. The main purpose of OSB-3 is to rigidly keep SIP geometry, protect polystyrene foam from environmental impact, bear the load of the external cladding etc. The inner core is expanded polystyrene. It serves as a load-bearing member of the panel and thermal insulation. The load-bearing and insulation capacities of SIPs are largely dependent on expanded polystyrene thickness and quality. Gluing (under pressure) of OSBs to expanded polystyrene creates a very strong thermal insulation panel of a regular geometric shape. The surface of SIPPU panels is smooth and even of a regular shape. Production of warped and bulged panels is not allowed. Therefore, the assembly of SIPPU panels is easy, fast and comfortable. SIP panels made from OSBs and expanded polystyrene are not only used in construction of houses, warehouses, cafes, bathhouses, small architectural forms and other structures, but also for restoration of different types of buildings (adding a second storey, extensions to brick buildings etc.)

High durability of SIPPU sandwich panels is their ability to carry weight and seismic loading. The use of denser polystyrene foam and glue with increased adhesion contributed to a greater increase in SIPPU panels durability. Using only certified materials allowed SIPPU to significantly stabilize and improve characteristics of sandwich panels manufactured. SIPPU sandwich panels will retain their load capacity for over 80 years provided the assembly is good and the operating conditions are observed. Compliance with technology and multilevel quality control in all production phases allows our company to guarantee high quality of our sandwich panels.
OSBs-3 contain fire-retardant agents that prevent fire. When paired with 9mm thick plasterboards they provide reliable protection of polystyrene foam for 45 minutes long exposure to open fire. We produce SIP panels with increased fire resistance (class SE according to the international classification). For that we use self-extinguishing polystyrene foam with fire-retardant agents, that also slow down inflammation and burning of this material.
SIP panel moisture resistance depends on OSB grade and manufacturer’s good faith. We use OSB-3 (moisture resistant) in the production of SIP panels. EGGER, an OSB manufacturing company, is certified in Ukraine and carries out close control of its products. Our company also carries out quality control of materials to allow us to offer warranty on our products to customers.
SIP longevity depends largely on the quality of foam, protecting boards and assembly. Expanded polystyrene is a reliable and time-proven material. Unlike polyurethane foam or mineral wool, polystyrene foam does not sink with time and retains its shape for decades. Provided the integrity of protective boards is preserved polystyrene foam keeps its shape for over a hundred years. For household and temporary buildings often use sip panels with low density of expanded polystyrene. SIP longevity depends on foam density to a large degree. If the density is low, the cells diminish significantly after 20 years, resulting in cavities and a gradually decrease in the thermal insulation properties of the SIP panels.
Experience shows that SIP panel houses do not get infested with mice for several reasons: rodents do not eat materials sandwich panel are made from - OSBs and polystyrene foam, or use these SIP panels to make nests. External rigid OSBs protect foam from direct contact with rodents, and rodents are not attracted to the panels due to their high thermal insulation. High quality assembly of SIPs ensures complete insulation and absence of cracks in the house, which creates an excellent protection against rodents and does not attract them with either heat or smell.
